Seam
Route10-25 yd
Vertical sprint from a slot or TE alignment, splitting the deep safeties. No hard break — slight inside release, then sustained vertical. Beats Cover 2 (gap between safeties) and Cover 4 (vertical the safety can't carry). Foundation route in 4 verts.
Demo rendered on @X (outside WR) at 18yd depth. Only the route runner and the QB are shown so the break stays the focus; the same route family scales to any depth a play calls for, and concepts that use this route may set a different depth.
How to run it
split the safeties, run through the post.
Reading it by coverage
How to run the seam against what the defense shows.
- Cover 1:
- vs single-high — split the FS from the post-safety pin; ball over the top.
- Cover 2:
- split the two safeties — vertical down the middle of the field.
- Cover 3:
- attack the seam between the deep-third defender and the curl/flat — bender if open.
- Cover 4:
- vertical down the seam — read the safety's carry; sit-down if he stops.
